Life's Too Serious

31/08/2016

The latest addition to our sales & marketing team, Milly, came up with these slang phrases from the Roaring '20s' that she thinks we should bring back:

Ameche: a phone (Actor Don Ameche played Alexander Graham Bell in the film about the invention of  the ‘dog ‘n’ bone’)

Bronx Cheer: the sound of raspberries you make to indicate disapproval (wait a minute – every time a test cricketer catches a ball after dropping the previous one the crowd applauds and the commentator announces a so-called Bronx Cheer – kind of ‘well done this time anyway’)

Cellar Smeller: a guy who only comes around when there’s free booze (Know anyone like that?)

Ground Grippers: shoes or sneakers

Streeted: to be tossed out of a party (Do people have parties anymore?)

Hit on All Sixes: to perform at full-capacity or nail it one-hundred percent

Lalapazaza: a good sport

Off-Time Jive: To have bad manners, impolite

Blue Serge: a real sweetheart

Middle Aisle: to get married (Example: “I’m going down the middle aisle.”)

and then of course the flip side...

Declaration of Independence: a divorce (Also can use: "dropping the pilot")

We've told Milly not to audition for the Comedy Club just yet!
